Merck has announced their founding membership to the "OLED Licht Forum" alongside industry experts. The aims of the network is to seek to develop and utilize OLED for future lighting solutions through dialogue and expert exchange.
An example of such OLED applications for architecture can already be seen in the innovative façade concept "Do We Dream Under The Same Sky" which was showcased at Luminale 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany.
The "OLED Licht Forum" is founded by ten German companies, including: Apeva, BASF Coatings, Emde, Fraunhofer FEP, Hema, Irlbacher, Merck, OLEDWorks, OSRAM, WALO-TL, who all make great contributions to the OLED technology in areas such as research and development, supply chain, and OLED lighting panel manufacturing.
The alliance is also dedicated to fostering community within the greater lighting industry by facilitating the exchange of experience and know-how through conferences, lectures, institution visits and working groups.
"This non-profit alliance aims to leverage their expertise to further develop OLED as a sustainable light source for a variety of applications."
"We will aim to identify how OLED technology can be used to create one-of-a-kind solutions with ranging benefits such as being efficient, eco-friendly and even self-sustaining when combined with other technologies."
Michael Grund, Head of OLED & Quantum Materials for the Performance Materials business sector of Merck
The future of OLED lighting demonstrated by grand installation art work now in Luminale 2018 Frankfurt. The 30 m2 façade, created by New York artist Rirkrit Tiravanija and Frankfurt architects Nikolaus Hirsch and Michel Müller, is the result of a joint effort by Merck, OLEDWorks, OPVIUS and Kolon (the long-term industry partners for OLED and OPV).
The façade concept "Do We Dream Under The Same Sky" is an example of the remarkable results that are possible when OLED lighting, OPV, and architecture unite to create a self-sustaining work of art.
