According to several news websites Chinese TV manufacturer Skyworth is reported to want to sell 200,000 of its new OLED HDR TV panels during 2016. The majority of the TVs will offer a package of HDR support technology, and the 4K ultra HD display resolution at 3840 x 2160 pixels will be equipped with OLED display panels from LG Display. The OLED screens will be on par with LG’s latest HDR capable OLED models.
The report also noted that LG Display’s partnership with the Chinese vendor is aimed at meeting their own OLED display sales goals for 2016. By entering mass production LG is seeking to drive down the prices of OLED 4K TV in 2016 and to increase the popularity and appeal of OLED TV with consumers.
To add to the commercial push LG is planning to expand their OLED TV lineup this year, with heavy OLED TV advertising scheduled for the 2016 Super Bowl.
LG is projecting that they aim to sell more than 1 million panels during 2016.
Unnamed sources have said that LG may have sold 450,000 to 500,000 OLED TV panels during the course of 2015, and the sales incorporates its OLED 4K UHD TVs and OLED panels sold to consumers, retailers, and other TV manufacturers. This was lower than the original 600,000 forecast earlier in the year, and the target for 2016 has been lowered from 1.5 million panels.
