According to a recent news article Japan Display Inc (JDI) has developed a 5.2-inch high-definition AM-OLED display of 1,920 x 1,080 resolution.

Japan Display achieved the high resolution by combining its low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS), white OLED and drive technologies. The company intends to solve problems involved in volume production by deepening ties with Japan-based material and equipment makers.

Full colour HD LCD panels are found in an increasing number of high-end smartphones, OLED panels are considered a viable alternative to LCD for high end smart phones.

In September 2012, Japan Display developed a 4.5-inch HD (1,280 x 720-pixel) OLED panel with the same "white OLED device + colour filter technology, this display had a screen resolution of 326ppi, which is the same as the resolution of the iPhone 5's display.
