Thinfilm announces the company has received its first order for brand-protection system

Leading consumer packaged goods company trials Thinfilm MemoryTM to combat counterfeit products

22 Mar 2013 | Editor

Thin Film Electronics (Thinfilm) has announced the company has received the first order for the use of Thinfilm Memory for brand protection, a system of specialised electronic labels to help reduce counterfeiting. The order was received from a global consumer packaged goods company.

According to Thinfilm their "Thinfilm MemoryTM" has an electronic signature that is virtually impossible to replicate. In addition, the signal can be deliberately and predictably modified to create a signature unique to a product line or manufacturer. The brand protection system includes custom-designed memory labels and a handheld reader that tests the product label and verifies its authenticity.

The Thinfilm Memory labels can be applied to any product in the same way as a conventional label. In addition, Thinfilm's unique protection process makes the memory labels extremely robust, able to withstand abusive handling and harsh environmental conditions.

With this memory label offering, Thinfilm will deliver electronic validation at the individual item level, making it easier for consumers to be assured they are buying authentic products.

Davor Sutija, Thinfilm's CEO, said, "The largest companies in the world lose billions of dollars each year to illegally copied merchandise. Product labels are easy to duplicate, and even authorized retailers may be unable to recognize counterfeit products." Davor added, "Thinfilm's ultra low-cost electronic memory provides distributors and retailers a powerful way to detect fake products."
