Agfa Specialty Products and MGI Digital Technology have announced recently the formal creation of a strategic development agreement aimed at the Printed Electronics industry.

The objective is to combine both Agfa's unique and complementary chemical know-how and MGI Digital Technology's industrial know-how to develop and launch the world’s first industrial inkjet solution for the Printed Electronics market. With this alliance, the companies respond to the growing global industrial demand for printed electronic components.

The market opportunities are considerable with many growth areas and applications that have already been identified, ranging from the internet of things (IoT) to energy harvesting, security and biomedical industries.

For the first time, two international industrial groups will combine their strengths focusing on a Printed Electronics market segment that is currently served by start-ups of which the products are still in the developmental stage.

As part of this partnership, MGI Digital Technology and its subsidiary Ceradrop bring their industry expertise and innovative strength in inkjet equipment technology, while Agfa Specialty Products will bring their globally proven experience in the field of conductive inks.

These complementarities cover the entire value chain – from equipment, inks, processes to global support – and will be a key asset for the development of these new solutions.

This fully integrated approach will also generate important competitive advantages. MGI Digital Technology’s industrial and commercial experience, combined with Agfa Specialty Products’ chemical expertise and ink know-how, will cover all industrial requirements concerning pricing and returns on investments that are key to making any innovation successful.

Finally, by building this exclusive agreement on strong respective commitments, Agfa Specialty Products and MGI Digital Technology aim to make a big step forwards in the development of a truly innovative industrial inkjet solution for Printed Electronics.
