According to a news article ont he Tech-on website Stanley Electric Co Ltd developed an OLED tail lamp to be exhibited at the forthcoming 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015, which runs from Oct 29 to Nov 8, 2015.

Compared with LED-based tail lamps, the OLED tail lamps offer greater freedom in design. The OLED tail lamp when switched on emits red light, however when switched off is almost transparent, and the chrome-plated reflective rear plate can be seen in it. The overall effect is a tail-lamp when off looks similar to the other chrome-plated parts of the vehicle.

Stanley Electric considers that it is possible to commercialise the tail lamp by about 2020 especially if its thermal resistance can be improved.
