According to a news article on the Digitimes website JOLED intends to invest US$161 million in new OLED research facilities in Ishikawa Prefecture, the report was based on an original article that appeared on the SankeiBiz news website.

The facilities are also expected to mass produce products by 2018 and that samples will be sent out as early as the end of 2016. The news report said Japan Display (JDI) is likely to mass produce products at the facility.

The report also went on to speculate that Apple may pair up with JDI and LG Display to receive OLED panels as early as late 2016 for future iPad products, and that JDI's supply from the new OLED faciliites would mainly go to Apple.

JOLED is also pushing forward with developing 10- to 30-inch Full HD OLED products for use in tablet, notebook and commercial monitor applications.

Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ), JDI, Sony, and Panasonic announced back in late 2014 they executed a definitive agreement to establish JOLED to integrate Sony and Panasonic's R&D functions for OLED display panels, and that the companies aim to accelerate the development and early commercialisation of OLED display panels.
