A recent news article on the Bloomberg news website Samsung Electronics has begun production at a third factory for curved smartphone screens sooner than expected as demand surges for its Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone, according to unnamed sources.

Samsung expects to sell more than 70,000,000 units of the new phone, the Korea Times reported April 15, citing an unidentified executive of the company.

Adding the A3 production line enables Samsung Display to more than double monthly output to 5,000,000 screens up from the current 2,000,000 per month. The plant was expected to have started production during June so the early ramp-up is a surprise.
