Samsung and LG Display have shifted their view of the long-term viability of flexible OLED displays and are now expecting to make significant investments this year in extending their flexible display facilities.

The recently launched Galaxy S6 Edge, Apple Watch, and G Flex 2 have all adopted flexible OLED displays and with news that further investments are to follow there is much anticipation that flexible OLED will become more widespread.

Samsung Display LG Display
  • planned to invest in scale of 2nd level A3 15000 sheets
  • high chance off installing flexible OLED edge panel in Galaxy Note 5
  • debating whether to sell flexible OLED edge panel to other countries
  • planned to extend their facilities in 6th generation Gumi factory, scale of 7500 sheets
  • expecting to produce 15 million Apple watches, 1 million G-Flex 2s
  • planning 3-inch production
An unnamed company official is reported to have said, "If the domestic display companies have made new investment in flexible panel earlier, we could have adapted to the market change smoothly and easily. LG Display is planning to produce 3-inch products as well." The company official continued " That the flexible panel’s usage is becoming widely applied, even in cars, and sees the investment will progress favourably because the demand for it is continuously increasing."
